Eligibility: 

Any 1) physician or scientist in a residency or fellowship training program, 2) medical student, or 3) PhD candidate whois residing in Canada, the U.S., or Mexico as of January 19, 2012 and who is conducting platelet-related research.
Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination in future years. Candidates may be nominated for only oneresearch project.

Award Criteria:
Priority will be given to research projects that significantly advance the understanding of platelet biology, physiology, thrombosis, or hemostasis, whether through basic or clinical investigation. The research must not have been published
before December 1, 2011. Applications will be judged on the scientific merit of the research and the quality andoriginality of the summary.

Judges:
The Platelet Colloquium Review Committee is cochaired by Richard C. Becker, MD, of Duke University Medical Center,Susan S. Smyth, MD, PhD, of University of Kentucky, Harold L. Dauerman, MD, of the University of Vermont, Steven R.
Steinhubl, MD, of Geisinger Health System, and Jane E. Freedman, MD, of Boston University School of Medicine.

Awards:
One or two Early Career Investigators Award(s) to include participation in the 7th Annual Platelet Colloquium on January 19-21, 2012 (Willard InterContinental Hotel, Washington, DC), including a 10-minute presentation of your research, paid travel
expenses to the meeting from a U.S., Canadian or Mexican city, and a $2,500 research award.

If you are selected as the award winner, we will require you to fill out a W-9 and provide an electronic file of your
research slides to be included in the attendees’ packets.

  1. Completed Early Career Investigators Competition application icon 2011 ECIC Application (138 kB)
  2. A 1-2 page summary of an original research project in the field of Cardiology, Hematology, Thrombosis, and/or Vascular Biology
  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. Letter from an immediate supervisor, department chair, division head, or similar detailing how much of the design, conduct, and analysis of the research project was performed by the candidate and any coinvestigators.  Letter may be recieved by the review committee through the applicant or directly from the letter writer.
