Eligibility: 
Any 1) physician or scientist in a residency or fellowship training program, 2) medical student, or 3) PhD candidate who is residing in Canada, the U.S., or Mexico as of January 28-30, 2010 and who is conducting platelet-related research. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination in future years. Candidates may be nominated for only one research project.

Award Criteria:
Priority will be given to research projects that significantly advance the understanding of platelet biology, physiology, thrombosis, or hemostasis, whether through basic or clinical investigation. The research must not have been published before October 1, 2009. Applications will be judged on the scientific merit of the research and the quality and originality of the summary.

Judges:
The Platelet Colloquium Review Committee, cochaired by Richard C. Becker, MD, of Duke University Medical Center, Susan S. Smyth, MD, PhD, of University of Kentucky, Harold L. Dauerman, MD, of the University of Vermont, and David J. Schneider, MD, of the University of Vermont.

Awards:
One award to include:

  • Participation in the 5th Annual Platelet Colloquium on January 28-30, 2010, including a 15-minute presentation of your research
  • Paid travel expenses to the meeting from a U.S., Canadian or Mexican city
  • A $2,500 research award

If you are selected as the award winner, we will require you to fill out a W-9 and provide an electronic file of your research slides to be included in the attendees’ packets.

  1. Completed Early Career Investigators Competition application

  2. A 1-2 page summary of an original research project in the field of Cardiology, Hematology, Thrombosis, and/or Vascular Biology
  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. Letter from an immediate supervisor, department chair, division head, or similar detailing how much of the design, conduct, and analysis of the research project was performed by the candidate and any coinvestigators
